Let’s Keep Our Community Clean: A Friendly Reminder on Proper Refuse Sorting & Disposal

Posted By on February 27, 2024

As the caretakers of our vibrant community, we wanted to address a matter that impacts us all – the correct sorting and disposal of refuse. It has come to our attention that there has been an increase in instances where refuse is being disposed of in the wrong bins, and boxes are not being broken down. This behavior has a negative impact on community cleanliness and hampers our efforts to maintain a sustainable and eco-friendly environment.  San Francisco has set standards for waste management, and as residents of this beautiful city, we have a shared responsibility to adhere to these guidelines.

Why Proper Refuse Sorting Matters:

The Budget: Every individual member of Arterra has to pay higher refuse costs when trash, recycling, and compost are not properly broken down and sorted.  The city of SF will eventually require Arterra to hire a refuse sorting vendor if this issue is not resolved.  This cost will directly impact your HOA fees.

Environmental Impact: Proper sorting helps ensure that recyclable and compostable materials are processed efficiently, reducing the burden on landfills and conserving valuable resources.

Community Aesthetics: Not breaking down your box before discarding in the recycling bin is the reason you see overflowing recycling in the trash area every week.  By taking just a couple moments to break down (flatten your box) before discarding in the bin will prevent overflows and contribute to a clean and well-maintained community which everyone can be proud of.

How You Can Help:

Educate Yourself: Familiarize yourself with the guidelines mentioned above. The more we know, the better we can contribute to a cleaner environment.

Encourage Others: Spread the word to your neighbors and friends about the importance of proper refuse sorting. A collective effort makes a significant impact.

Be Mindful: Take an extra moment when disposing of your waste to ensure it goes into the correct bin. Small actions add up to big results.

Together, we can address these concerns and ensure our community remains a shining example of responsible living.  Let’s work together to maintain the beauty of our neighborhood and continue to be proud residents of San Francisco.
