What is the SF Railyards project?

Posted By on February 26, 2025

A significant transformation is being planned just across King Street, and it’s one that Arterra residents may want to pay close attention to. The SF Railyards project aims to redevelop the 20-acre site along Townsend Street between 4th and 7th streets, currently used as a railyard and train station for Caltrain. Owned by Prologis, the site has long been a key piece of infrastructure but has not fully integrated with the surrounding community. Now, there is an opportunity to modernize the station and rethink the space in a way that could impact the character and value of our neighborhood.

The project envisions a reimagined rail station at the heart of a mixed-use neighborhood, potentially improving connectivity between SOMA, Mission Bay, and Showplace Square. While these changes could bring benefits like better transit options and new public spaces, they may also raise questions about construction timelines, long-term impacts, and how our community will fit into the new urban landscape.

Because of its proximity to your homes, this project has the potential to directly affect Arterra residents.  More information and contact resources can be found at the SF Railyard website:  https://www.railyards-sf.com/.

To help the Arterra community stay informed, the Board of Directors and Arterra Management is coordinating a Q&A event with SF Railyards representatives. More details on the event will be shared soon!
